INDOOR CRICKET CENTRE - WARMANS SPORTS TRUST

The Indoor Cricket Centre is a purpose-designed, year-round training facility within the Warman Sports Trust grounds in Hayes, Bromley. The 664 sqm building provides three full-length cricket practice lanes alongside flexible coaching space, changing and welfare facilities, storage and inclusive access.

Sports buildings deserve the same clarity of architectural thinking, technical rigour and attention to context as a house, workplace or masterplan.

The project is shaped by a particularly sensitive Green Belt setting and a number of significant technical constraints. Its lightweight steel structure and undulating roof profile reduce the perceived scale of the building, allowing it to sit below the surrounding mature tree canopy and integrate with the established landscape.

The design has been developed through consultation with Sport England and the England and Wales Cricket Board, informing the playing dimensions, netting, lighting, flooring, ventilation and accessibility strategy. A high-pressure SGN gas main crossing the site introduced a further layer of complexity, requiring careful coordination of the building footprint and ancillary structures around its protected easement.

The result is a carefully resolved sports facility that brings together specialist performance requirements, complex infrastructure and a landscape-led response to its Green Belt context.

Designed for year-round use, the centre will extend access to cricket beyond the traditional season, supporting junior development, structured coaching and stronger links with local schools, clubs and the wider community.
